EXPO CHICAGO, The International Exposition of Contemporary & Modern Art, is pleased to initiate an official partnership with the Palais de Tokyo and the Institut français as part of Hors les Murs, a large-scale exhibition off-site project presented as an official satellite program to open during the sixth edition, and will run concurrently through the 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial (September 16–January 7). Curated by the Palais de Tokyo’s Katell Jaffrès, the project will develop in two parts; the first through a residency partnership with Mana Contemporary Chicago, allowing international and France-based artists to produce new work in Chicago specifically for the exhibition. The second is an ambitious large-scale exhibition that will take place at the Roundhouse—a 17,000 sq. ft space built in 1881 and designed by Burnham & Root—on The DuSable Museum of African American History campus in Washington Park on Chicago’s south side. The exhibition design will involve a strong architectural component through a partnership with the Graham Foundation with Guest Designer Andrew Schachman, to collaborate with Jaffrès on a singular approach to the space and exhibition design.
The program is an extension of the French-American Curatorial Exchange initiated in 2013 with the Cultural Services of French Embassy in the United States. |
